Conductor/Director: Pam Choinski
Fall 2024 - present
The Wellesley Town Band is excited to introduce and welcome our new Conductor/Director Pam Choinski this Fall (2024).
Pam Choinski is currently the Band Director at Abby Kelley Foster High
School in Worcester, MA, where she directs the high school bands and
teaches keyboard and general music classes to students in grades 8
through 12. In addition, she is the Assistant Director of the Windham
Community Band and previously taught music at Merrimack Valley High
School. She also teaches clarinet and recorder at the Joy of Music
Program in Worcester, MA. She earned her Master of Arts in Instrumental
Conducting and Bachelor of Music in Music Education degrees from the
University of New Hampshire. In 2019, she was selected as a recipient of
a CBDNA Mike Moss Conducting Study Grant, and has participated in
numerous conducting workshops, including the 2019 Frederick Fennell
Memorial Conducting Masterclass at the Eastman School of Music. When not conducting, she enjoys hiking, cross country skiing, and rock climbing.
Conductor/Director Emeritus: Henry Platt
2013-2024
Henry Platt was the conductor and music director of the Wellesley Town Band (WTB) since it began in 2013 until the Spring of 2024.
Now retired, Henry served as Band Director of the Wellesley Middle School from 1988-2016, as well as High School Band Director from 1990-97. He was Band Director at the Whitman-Hanson Regional HS from 1984-88 and was an Adjunct Music Professor at the Boston Conservatory from 1991-2002. Prior to teaching Henry earned a degree in ethnomusicology from Tufts and degrees in Jazz guitar and music education from Berklee College of Music.
Henry’s popularity as a teacher brought current and former students into the fold, making the WTB truly intergenerational. Moreover, his deep knowledge of the repertoire broadened the musical horizons of all who played in the band and was critical in the development of a varied and exciting concerts.
